Collective agreement reached between Marine Atlantic Inc. and USW/ILA Council of Trade Unions Français
Minister Leitch congratulates parties on reaching new agreement
OTTAWA, Dec. 30, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated Marine Atlantic Inc. and USW/ILA Council of Trade Unions on reaching a collective agreement.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the Canada Labour Code.

- Marine Atlantic Inc. is a federal Crown corporation offering commercial and passenger ferry services between the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia.
- The collective agreement, covering 442 employees, expired on December 31, 2013.
- Over the last five years, more than 94 percent of collective agreements within the federal jurisdiction were settled without a work stoppage when the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service was involved.
