CARLETON-SUR-MER, QC, Sept. 5, 2017 /CNW/ - The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced $37,000 in funding for the 17th edition of the La Virée festival, which will be held in Carleton-sur-Mer from August 6 to 8, 2017. The amount granted will also be used to support the 2017–2018 programming for the Maximum 90 organization.
This sum is granted through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. It will support development and outreach for emerging artists while promoting arts and culture in a widely accessible manner.

Maximum 90 is a programming organization in Carleton-sur-Mer, Gaspésie. Its mandate is to maintain accessibility and put on professional shows in the Avignon Regional County Municipality, as well as develop emerging artists in the region and elsewhere. It proposes regular, rich and diverse programming throughout the year and organizes arts and cultural awareness activities at educational institutions, among other places.
The La Virée festival, a living heritage event presented by event programming company Maximum 90, helps spread cultural practices from Gaspesian and Acadian traditions through story, song, music and traditional dance. The festival shows will be held at the Studio Hydro-Québec du Quai des arts in Carleton-sur-Mer, the Centre des congrès de la Gaspésie, Le Naufrageur microbrewery and the Foyer du Quai des arts.
