OTTAWA, Oct. 21, 2018 /CNW/ - While negotiations continue, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has decided to initiate strike action. CUPW has given notice that it intends to hold rotating strikes in Victoria, Edmonton, Windsor and Halifax beginning after 12:01 am on Monday, October 22 (local time), and lasting 24 hours. In those areas, mail and parcels will not be delivered or picked up.
Canada Post continues to operate across Canada. We are accepting and delivering mail and parcels in all other locations.
Canada Post remains committed to the bargaining process and has a significant offer on the table that includes increased wages, job security, improved benefits and contains no concessions. We have also addressed many of the concerns raised by the union and offered to work together constructively to find solutions. Those include working together to address employee workload concerns caused by parcel growth, additional financial services and going beyond pay equity for Rural and Suburban employees by extending job security and moving to one uniform.
We remain committed to arriving at a negotiated settlement with CUPW, while making every effort to minimize the impact of any disruption on the customers we serve. Customers may experience minor delays as a result of the rotating strike action.
