OTTAWA, May 26, 2015 /CNW/ - Mike Palecek, National President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, will be joining a rally in Hamilton today in conjunction with the Superior Court hearing on Canada Post's violation of municipal bylaws.
Prior to going to the courthouse, Palecek will visit Henry Evans-Tenbrinke, a retiree who is occupying a mailbox site on Hamilton Mountain.
"This hearing is about the complete failure of Canada Post to consult adequately with cities, communities and people before ramming these mailboxes down our throats," said Palecek.
"We're hopeful that the judge will rule that municipalities ought to have a say in what happens with these mailboxes because municipalities are going to be shouldering the costs of the federal Conservative government's decision to take away our home mail delivery."
