QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 16, 2012 /CNW/ - Delegates to the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union convention being held in Quebec City this week have re-elected Dave Coles as CEP National President, Gaétan Ménard as CEP Secretary-Treasurer, and Peter Murdoch as CEP Vice-President, Media.
"We have a significant job to do: we are going to build not only a new union, but a new labour movement," Coles told delegates after thanking them for their support. Over the coming months, one of his main tasks will be to lead the union in the process of creating a new union with the CAW.
Dave Coles' election was contested by Wendy Sol, who served as Administrative Vice-President for the Western Region over the past eight years.
Elections for regional vice-presidents are being held this afternoon. About 1,500 delegates and guests are participating in the union's convention, which ends tomorrow.
