OTTAWA, Oct. 25, 2016 /CNW/ - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making participant funding available to assist the public and Indigenous groups in participating in the remaining steps of the environmental assessment of the proposed Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) for Low and Intermediate Level Radioactive Waste Project near Kincardine, Ontario.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change requested additional information from Ontario Power Generation (OPG). The Agency will undertake the review of the additional information, which is to be submitted in December 2016.
The Agency-led review process will include a comment period on the additional information, on the report that the Agency will prepare following its analysis of the additional information, and on potential conditions with which the proponent must comply, if the project is allowed to proceed.
The timeline for an environmental assessment decision to be made on the project remains paused until OPG submits its response to the Minister's information request.
Participant Funding
At this time, the public and Indigenous groups are invited to apply for funding to assist participation in the remaining steps of the environmental assessment. Funding applications received by November 22, 2016 will be considered.
