Delta Hotels and Resorts supports Earth Hour through energy-saving service offerings for guests Français
All across the country, Delta goes dark for the 3rd consecutive year!
TORONTO, March 14, 2012 /CNW/ - Delta Hotels and Resorts will once again shut off lights in support of Earth Hour for the third consecutive year at its 43 properties across the country on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. (local time). In addition to going dark, the chain will further demonstrate its commitment to the environment by providing guests with a host of energy-saving service offerings, as part of Delta's national sustainability program, Delta Greens.
"Earth Hour is a great example of how small, simple steps like turning off lights can engage a global community and help create a sustainable future," said David Bird, Senior Vice President of Operations, Delta Hotels and Resorts. "Community engagement is an important part of Delta Greens, and we are excited to provide these unique energy-saving services in addition to joining millions of people around the world in turning off lights."
In addition to going dark, participating Delta properties from Victoria to Charlottetown will show their support by turning off signature signage, lights and fountains; using candlelight in public spaces such as restaurants, bars and designated lobby areas; hosting guest receptions featuring cold appetizers, raw and sustainable snacks; providing guided star gazing and puppet show classes; and offering Earth Hour themed menus and cocktails. Guests will be encouraged to reduce their energy consumption during Earth Hour, and to participate in the various activities offered by hotels.

Victoria | Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort and Spa will serve milk and earth decorated cookies during kid's story time in the lobby featuring Dr. Seuss' book The Lorax. The story was chosen because of its important environmental message. They will also serve a special three course candlelit dinner in LURE Restaurant featuring local cuisine. |
Vancouver | Delta Vancouver Suites' Spencers Resto Lounge will host a candlelit dinner, featuring a cold sharing style entrée consisting of Oceanwise sustainable seafood products. The hotel will also reduce common area temperatures by two degrees, offer Earth Hour facts printed on seed paper, and host a draw for an LED light bulb. |
Richmond | Delta Vancouver Airport will host a candlelit earth hour celebration in the lobby between 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. featuring raw-food snacks and a reading by professional story-teller Melanie Ray. In addition, the hotel's restaurant Pier 73 will run an Oceanwise menu featuring sustainable seafood, which will continue for several weeks to promote awareness of Earth Hour and the hotel's commitment to the environment. |
Burnaby | Delta Burnaby will feature the first ever EBO-UNPLUGGED. EBO Lounge will host an acoustic guitarist, while Chef Dan Craig and his team provide snacks and share plates that require no use of energy. EBO will also serve green drink specials. |
Whistler | Delta Whistler Village Suites will be giving guest's reusable cloth bags as a gift to continue using in the future, in addition to turning off lights. Tantalus Resort Lodge will encourage guests to reconnect with friends and family by signing out board games at the lodge. |
Sun Peaks | Delta Sun Peaks Resort will feature local artists playing live acoustic music during a special candlelit dinner reception, featuring a Farm to Fork sustainable menu items at Mantles Restaurant. |
Kelowna | Delta Grand Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre's Grand Bay Café will offer a special candlelit table d'hote menu focused on local, sustainable menu items and wine pairings. The hotel's green committee will also set up a booth in the hotel lobby to talk to guests about the green initiatives at the hotel. |

Banff | Delta Banff's Evergreen Dining Room will host a candlelit dinner featuring a special Earth Hour menu. |
Kananaskis | Delta Lodge at Kananaskis will host Disneynature: Earth event in the children's centre to encourage guests to get out of their rooms and use only one TV as a community. They will also host a guided star gazing, and shadow puppet class for all ages. Grappa restaurant will also host a candlelit dinner, offering a surprise specialty menu. |
Calgary | Delta Calgary South will organize a glow-in-the-dark bowling tournament in the lobby, while the Atrium Café will run a three-course candlelight menu focused on local produce. The hotel will also do check-in by candlelight, and turn off its signature waterfall. Delta Calgary Airport hotel will offer a candlelight dinner in North 51 Steakhouse offering a special table d'hote menu, featuring items with a low carbon footprint. Drink specials will be offered in the YYC Lounge with $1 donation going to World Wildlife Foundation. Delta Bow Valley will turn off their two roof top signs located on the 25th floor and offer check-in and restaurant services by candlelight. |
Edmonton | Delta Edmonton Centre Suite Hotel will invite guests to a candlelit reception with complimentary snacks in the lounge, Cocoa's. Delta Edmonton South Hotel Centre will invite guests to a candlelit reception in the lobby. The hotel is also encouraging their 150 associates to sign a personal pledge to participate in Earth Hour in their homes. |
Saskatoon | Delta Bessborough will turn off its signature exterior architectural lighting. In addition, dinner will be served by candlelight in the GCC (Gourmet Community Cuisine). |
Regina | Delta Regina will turn off its signature fountain and outside lights. |

Delta's Global Reservations Service will shut down the HVAC system and turn off all non-essential lights. All computer equipment with the exception of the reservation system will be turned off during Earth Hour. |
Saint John | Delta Brunswick will host a candlelit dinner in Shucker's Restaurant in recognition of Earth Hour. |
Moncton | Delta Beausejour will celebrate Earth Hour by lighting candles in the staff room and turning off the ventilation system for one hour. |
Halifax | Delta Halifax will host Cocktails by Candlelight in Harbour City Bar & Grill. The restaurant will be solely lit by candles and guests can enjoy themed specialty cocktails while indulging in a complimentary chocolate fondue station. Delta Barrington invites guests to Traders Bar for Cocktails by Candlelight featuring themed cocktails and a complimentary fondue station. |
Charlottetown | Delta Prince Edward's Selkirk restaurant will host a candlelit dinner, featuring an earth-friendly "Table d'Hote" menu. In addition, an audit will take place in every department prior to lights out and afterwards to show the effects and benefits of energy conservation. The event will be taped and posted on YouTube to encourage others to participate as well. |
St. John's | Delta St. John's will host a candlelit dinner and serve 'green' drinks in the hotel restaurant. |
