Government of Canada awards more than $1.6 million in financial assistance to investment projects evaluated at over $7 million

Communities need to build on innovation to strategically diversify and develop lasting regional competitive advantages. Supporting community transition and diversification is therefore a Government of Canada priority.
Six businesses and two organizations in the Rocher-Percé RCM — the Corporation de développement économique du territoire du Rocher-Percé, the Regroupement des pêcheurs professionnels du sud de la Gaspésie, Société secrète Distillerie Artisanale, Hôtel Motel Manoir de Percé, Eon Art Canada, Conception Navale FMP, Camp de Base Coin-du-Banc and Brasserie Auval Brewing co. — can rely on financial assistance from the Government of Canada to start up their business, expand, diversify their activities or improve their productivity. These projects will generate total investments of $7,105,460 and create 30 jobs in the area.
The repayable and non-repayable contributions totalling $1,694,759 were announced today by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.
The funding granted by the Government of Canada through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program will help these organizations and businesses meet their growth objectives.

Non-repayable contribution of $700,000 out of a total investment of $1,750,000 This is a recreational tourism project that consists of a thematic circuit made up of eight stations providing historical multimedia experiences and exhibits on Gaspésie flora. The circuit is in addition to three tourist attractions in Chandler: Nova Lumina, the Parc du Bourg de Pabos and the Circuit des bâtisseurs. The funding will mainly be used to develop the concept, purchase equipment and create a website. Established in 2000, the Corporation de développement économique du territoire du Rocher-Percé is a non-profit organization dedicated to the economic development of the Town of Chandler and the Rocher-Percé RCM. |
Le Regroupement des pêcheurs professionnels du sud de la Gaspésie Inc. |
Non-repayable contribution of $271,610 out of a total investment of $1,024,630 The project consists in developing and commercializing a prototype for an electronic dashboard called JOBEL. The electronic tool, which is intended mainly for lobster fishing, will be developed and adapted so that it can be marketed to all types of Atlantic commercial fisheries. The project will help the fishing industry go digital with better knowledge in real time of the status of catches, making it easier to protect the resource. Three jobs will be created thanks to a total investment of more than $1 million. CED's assistance will go toward the development of a software suite, the purchase of equipment, commercialization, promotion and technical support for fishers. The Regroupement des pêcheurs professionnels du sud de la Gaspésie Inc. is a non-profit organization with over 150 members. Its mission is to support the development of best groundfish and crustacean fishing practices and to defend the interests of its members. |
Conception navale FMP Inc. |
Repayable contribution of $333,000 out of a total investment of $2,097,500 The project supports the start-up of a boat building and repair business. CED's contribution is going toward costs related to the construction of the building and the acquisition of production equipment, including an overhead crane, a bending machine, pulse welding equipment, a press brake, electric welders, tools and a lift truck. The project will create six jobs. Conception Navale FMP is located in Newport, in the Town of Chandler. This is a start-up company that specializes in building aluminum fishing vessels, mainly lobster and crab boats, boat repairs and motor maintenance. |

Repayable contribution of $136,250 out of a total investment of $500,000 The project consists in helping the brewery expand and increase its production. The funding will be used to purchase and install new production equipment, namely a brewing system and steam boiler, and expand the building to house the brewing system. The project will create one job. Created in Val-d'Espoir in 2015, Brasserie Auval Brewing Co. is part of an agri-tourism route, with a brewery farm that grows berries and hardy grains and produces honey. Local raw materials are used to manufacture its atypical beers, which are distinctive, uniquely flavoured and intended for niche markets. |

Repayable contribution of $109,559 out of a total investment of $522,100 The project supports the start-up of this craft brewery. CED's assistance is going toward the acquisition and installation of production equipment, leasehold improvements and promotional tools, including a website. Two jobs will be created through this project. Located in Cap-d'Espoir in a former Anglican church built in 1875, the Société secrète Distillerie Artisanale creates and develops unique spirits with flavours from Gaspésie. |

Repayable contribution of $50,000 out of a total investment of $970,000 The project consists in improving and updating the Manoir de Percé. More specifically it involves modernizing the accommodation units, reception area and restaurant. CED's funding will be used to upgrade the rooms and common areas (except for the restaurant). The project will create two jobs. With its unique location in the heart of Percé, the Manoir de Percé has a view of Percé Rock. It has around 40 rooms, a conference room and a lobby and offers a variety of visitor services. |
Repayable contribution of $49,340 out of a total investment of $150,680 The financial assistance will help start up the business with the acquisition of specialized equipment and computer hardware, as well as leasehold improvements to the company's premises. The project will help create five jobs. |

Repayable contribution of $45,000 out of a total investment of $90,550 The project consists in starting up the business through the purchase of outdoor equipment such as fatbikes, paddle boards and safety equipment, as well as computer hardware and specialized management and booking software. The funding will also go toward the development of a high-performance website and leasehold improvements adding storage space, washrooms and showers for users of the outdoor services. The project will create three full-time seasonal jobs. Founded in 2017, Camp de Base Coin-du-Banc is a start-up SME whose mission is to provide an authentic Gaspésie tourism experience for adventure-seeking clients, both on land and at sea, as well as culinary experiences and a variety of accommodation options. |
