TORONTO, Feb. 6, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) recommends that electronic proof of automobile insurance (EPAI) be made available across Canada.
CCIR made the recommendation following stakeholder consultation in its May 2016 Electronic Proof of Automobile Insurance Project Issues Paper - to allow for the EPAI in Canada, alongside the traditional paper proof of insurance.
While the paper concluded that provincial insurance regulators have the legal capacity to allow EPAI delivery, CCIR acknowledges that some jurisdictions still have concerns that need to be addressed about the impact of EPAI, such as privacy and liability.
"We encourage regulators in jurisdictions where these concerns exist to work with their respective partners to address operational matters, with the aim of implementing EPAI." said Patrick Déry, Chair of CCIR.
Further information on EPAI is available on the CCIR's website.
