OTTAWA, Sept. 11, 2017 /CNW/ - In early September, the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) will initiate a pilot project to determine the feasibility of dedicating Toll Lane 1, previously used for transport trucks, to local traffic only at the Blue Water Bridge, Point Edward.
The Project, beginning in September and ending in January 2018, is intended to enhance safety at the entrance to the bridge by eliminating the need for multi-lane crossings.
The pilot project was proposed after reviewing traffic patterns of vehicles accessing the toll plaza. The objective of the trial period is to evaluate the implementation of a new approach that would keep vehicles entering Highway 402, between Indian Road and Front Street, in Lane 1 through to the toll facility. It is expected this will reduce the risk associated with "crossing over'' multiple lanes between large transport vehicles. This proposed option will provide direct local access to the toll lanes from the communities of Sarnia and Point Edward.
We are committed to working with stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of this pilot project aimed at increasing traffic safety and traffic fluidity.
