Five-dish, three-course meal made with fresh ingredients serves up savings and satisfies even the pickiest guests
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 1, 2016 /CNW/ - Everyone looks forward to a big Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings. However, a recent Walmart Canada survey found that nearly half of Canadians feel pressured by budgets and food preparation during the holidays. Helping them have a joyous holiday season, Walmart created a fresh, $5 per person*, five-dish dinner for eight, complete with a southern-seasoned turkey, hearty stuffing, vegetable sides and a sweet candy cane-inspired dessert that delivers great taste and value.
"The holidays are a time to feel like you're splurging even if you're on a budget," said Paul Del Duca, senior vice president, fresh foods at Walmart Canada. "Walmart Supercentres have an impressive selection of top quality, fresh groceries from meat to produce, including a variety of Canada No. 1 grade fruits and vegetables at low prices every day. Consumers are discovering our fresher side has everything they need to prepare a feast that's perfect for any gathering."
Canadians are feeling the pinch during the holiday season
Among the 94 per cent of Canadians who celebrate during the holiday season, 85 per cent say that they feel some form of pressure: 54 per cent cited budgeting for purchases and 40 per cent feel stress in preparing food for family gatherings.
One in three respondents confirmed that other sources of pressure during the holidays included feeling there are too many things to do (35%) and time constraints (34%) mean that there's not enough time to do them.
Crowd-pleasing and budget-friendly menu
The entire $40 feast was created using fresh ingredients with common pantry staples to create a new-traditional holiday dinner to help take the pressure off Canadians' budget and minds. Having everything available under one roof will also cut down on time spent running from store to store this holiday season.
For less than $40, families and their guests will enjoy a Cajun-Spice Roast Turkey ($16.54 or $2.07/serving), Make-Ahead Garlic and Herb Smashed Potatoes ($2.31 or $0.29/serving), Cauliflower Gratin ($9.13 or $1.14/serving), Maple Pecan Squash Wedges ($2.99 or $0.37/serving) and finish with a sweet Candy Cane Pavlova ($4.83 or $0.60/serving). Survey Methodology
A survey of 1,578 Canadians was completed online between September 6th and September 8th 2016 using Leger's online panel, LegerWeb. A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of +/-2.5%, 19 times out of 20.
