Following an initiative put in place during the recent Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada - Representatives of Octane Racing Group, Cascades and Soverdi proceed to a tree planting

MONTREAL, July 4, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - As announced in the days leading up to the recent Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, Octane Racing Group has provided hundreds of white pine shoots to the Société de verdissement du Montréal métropolitain (SOVERDI), which will be planting them in the eastside of the city in a few days. These white pine shoots came from the arrangements that adorned the tables of the hospitality suites along the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, as well as those in the media lounge during the weekend of June 7, 8 and 9. We remind you that the arrangements for the "centerpiece" were made by Cascades from recycled materials which included one annual flower and one white pine shoot.

This original and innovative initiative developed with the exceptional collaboration of the three partners was consecrated yesterday afternoon on Île Sainte-Hélène at Parc Jean-Drapeau, homeland of the Grand Prix, during the symbolic planting of trees by Messrs. Pierre Belec, General Manager of SOVERDI, Alain Lemaire, Executive Chairman of the Board of Cascades and François Dumontier, President and CEO of Octane Racing Group and President of Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada.

"Once again, we are grateful that Cascades and its leaders have agreed to work with us to create this new initiative, both simple and environmentally positive, which adds to those of the same kind already put forward for several years by our organization, " reiterated the President and CEO of Octane Racing Group and President of the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, François Dumontier.

"Cascades is pleased to have joined the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada in producing a tailor made ecological table centers that will have a positive impact for many years as the white pines, once mature, will capture some 740 tons equivalent of CO₂. These are little things like this that can make a difference", said Alain Lemaire, Executive Chairman of the Board of Cascades.

The white pine shoots used at the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada will be planted in an area near the Montreal water treatment station where SOVERDI has been working for a decade building a forest with the support of the station management.

"The forest that SOVERDI is creating at this place has several benefits: the project enables young people to enter the labor market and the trees planted will also be cutting winds for the station, thus limiting the spread of odors in certain times of the year" according to Pierre Belec, General Manager of SOVERDI.  "The initiative of Octane Racing Group and Cascades in this sense is a model for all event promoters" he added.

A Canadian company established in Montreal, Octane Racing Group Inc. is the promoter of the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA, under an agreement with Formula One Administration Limited and Formula 1 World Championship Limited (together the holder of commercialization rights to F1).
