François St-Aubin appointed director of the set and Costume / Scénographie program at the National Theatre School of Canada Français
MONTREAL, Feb. 26, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The National Theatre School of Canada (NTS) is pleased to announce that internationally renowned costume designer and 1984 NTS Set and Costume Design graduate, François St-Aubin, has been named Director of the only bilingual program at the School: Set and Costume Design/Scénographie. Mr. St-Aubin will assume his position at the beginning of August 2014. He thus becomes the 8th director of this program and replaces Danièle Lévesque, who will leave at the end of the current semester after 12 years of solid leadership.
The distinguished 7-person Selection Committee considered that Mr. St-Aubin's eloquent and distinct vision for the future of the program, combined with his tremendous creative experience with Robert Lepage (most recently as costume designer of Lepage's Ring Cycle at New York's Metropolitan Opera), the Stratford Festival, a who's who list of Québec theatres, and his reputation as a teacher, make him the ideal person to lead the Set and Costume Design program into the 21st century.
Simon Brault, NTS's CEO and chair of the Selection Committee, said that François St-Aubin's "profoundly humanistic approach to his craft will serve him well to bring out creative excellence in his students. We look forward to his arrival in August and to the transition period starting today."
