Competition Bureau focuses on subscription traps and free trial scams during the fourth annual "2 Good 2 B True Day"
OTTAWA, March 8, 2016 /CNW/ - When it comes to free trial scams and subscription traps, promises of 'free' can actually end up costing you big time.
Canadians are bombarded with advertisements for free trial offers on a daily basis, and it can be difficult to determine which ones are from legitimate businesses and which ones are scams. In fact, it is estimated that Canadians lost almost $3 million to these types of scams last year.
That's why today, the Competition Bureau and its Fraud Prevention Forum partners are joining together to mark the fourth annual "2 Good 2 B True Day" to provide consumers with information and tips on how to avoid becoming the victims of subscription traps and free trial scams, as well as other types of common scams.
Bureau experts (@CompBureau) will host a Twitter Chat between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. today to help spread the word on how Canadians can avoid becoming victims of fraud. Join the conversation by using the #2G2BT hashtag and ask questions and share your experiences. The Bureau and its partners will be using the #2G2BT and #FPM2016 hashtag today and throughout the month of March to share information on how to recognize, reject and report fraud.
