Tech-forward retailer hiring 3,000 in-store employees and bulking up IT department to support increase in online shopping

BURNABY, BC, Oct. 17, 2012 /CNW/ - With consumer electronics consistently topping the holiday wish lists of Canadians, Future Shop, Canada's largest consumer electronics retailer and e-tailer, is making it easy for gift givers to get the expert advice and service they need this shopping season. By adding 3,000 tech-forward seasonal associates to its present workforce of 10,000 and increasing the headcount in its IT department by 30 per cent to support ecommerce, Future Shop is ensuring consumers get the best shopping experience possible, regardless of the medium they choose.
With Canada's internet economy expected to grow by 7.4 per cent a year through 20161, Future Shop is ensuring it has the people-power to support its online sales, which have increased more than 50 per cent in the past year.
"Given Future Shop's tech-savvy consumer base, more and more customers are turning to Futureshop.ca for a fast, convenient method of shopping," said Chris Taylor, Vice President of Human Resources, Future Shop. "For those who prefer to research online and shop in-store or go through the entire process with a Product Expert by their side, there will be 30 per cent more employees available to help them at the store level this season."
Positions available for seasonal hiring include sales associates in all departments - including appliances, cellular and entertainment, as well as additional positions in merchandising and customer service. While hiring began on October 8, Future Shop will be hosting its "National Hiring Week" during the week of October 22 with positions starting in November and running through early January. Successful candidates will receive immediate benefits such as staff discounts on purchase and commission for some roles.
