Government of Canada announces appointment of three new members to Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Français
OTTAWA, May 15, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, announced the appointment of three new members to the Council of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS): Mr. Ross Nairne, as Governor representing the Province of Alberta; Mr. Marcel Pouliot, as Governor representing employers; and Mr. Troy Winters, as Governor representing labour.
Since 2011, Mr. Nairne has been the Executive Director of the Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Program Development Branch of Alberta Jobs, Skills, Labour and Training. Prior to joining the Alberta Public Service in 2007, he served with the Canadian Forces for over twenty years, where he held a variety of roles as a Commissioned Officer in Canada and overseas. Mr. Nairne holds Master's degrees from the Royal Military College of Canada and the University of Alberta, and is a graduate of the Government of Alberta's Corporate Executive Development Program.
Mr. Pouliot is the Vice-President of Safety and Fleet for North America at Trimac Transportation Limited, where he has held several senior positions related to safety since starting there as Safety Manager for Eastern Canada over 25 years ago. He has served on a number of boards, including the board of the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario. Mr. Pouliot attended the University of Calgary, where he earned a Master of Business Administration with honours, and the University of Laval, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Mr. Winters is the Senior Officer for Health and Safety for the Canadian Union of Public Employees. Representing approximately 630,000 members, he chairs many national and provincial committees, working groups, and boards of non-profit corporations related to occupational health and safety. Prior to his role with the union, Mr. Winters spent 10 years teaching and researching at Dalhousie University in the fields of industrial ergonomics, biomechanics and work design. He holds several degrees, including a Master of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, both of which he earned at Dalhousie University.
