Government of Canada Congratulates Esk'etemc First Nation on the Completion of Upgraded Water System

VANCOUVER, April 26, 2016 /CNW/ - The Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, Carolyn Bennett, today congratulated the Esk'etemc First Nation on the completion of its new water treatment and distribution system. The new system provides clean drinking water to the First Nation, servicing 118 homes, the community Band Office, school, fire hall, church, and health centre. In addition, the new system has resulted in the removal of the boil water advisory that has been in place since 2004.

In 2015, the Government of Canada invested $5.17 million to support the Esk'etemc water treatment and distribution system.

• The Esk'etemc First Nation is located 54 kilometres south of Williams Lake, in the central-interior of British Columbia.
• In Budget 2016, the Government of Canada proposes to strengthen on Reserve Water and Wastewater Infrastructure with a further $1.8 billion over five years to support clean drinking water and the treatment of wastewater on reserve.
