OTTAWA, April 17, 2013 /CNW/ - he Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, congratulated award recipients at the Canadian Women in Communications Annual Gala, held in Ottawa on April 16. The event brings together industry experts and honours outstanding achievement by women in the fields of communications and communications technology.
"Canadian women continue to excel in these rapidly changing sectors of the economy and we take immense pride in their contributions," said Minister Ambrose. "Our government is committed to promoting women's leadership and we are pleased to support extraordinary women like today's award recipients, who are opening doors so that others can follow. I salute this year's award recipients, all dynamic leaders and inspiring role models."
This year's award recipients are:

For over 20 years, CWC has sought to raise the profile of women in the fields of communications and technology. They do this through a variety of means, including awards galas, mentoring and their Women on Boards program, and by working closely with government agencies, corporations and other associations.
The Government of Canada is committed to supporting projects that yield concrete results for women and girls while strengthening families, communities and the country. Through Status of Women Canada, the government's support for community-based projects has nearly doubled since 2006-2007, from $10.8 million to close to $19 million, its highest level ever. Since 2007, through the Women's Program of Status of Women Canada, more than $21 million in funding has been approved for projects that promote women's leadership and democratic participation.
On April 5, Minister Ambrose announced the launch of an advisory council to promote Canadian women's participation on corporate boards of directors.
