DOLBEAU-MISTASSINI, QC, Nov. 12, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, on behalf of the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, announced Government of Canada support for immigrant women in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec.
Portes Ouvertes Sur le Lac is receiving funding for a project to improve community organizations' ability to respond to the economic needs of immigrant women in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. In collaboration with the Service Externe de Main-d'œuvre du Saguenay, the project will consolidate existing and create new partnerships to better identify the needs of immigrant women in the region. Strategies to respond to these needs will then be developed and piloted with partners in order to evaluate their effectiveness.
This project was selected through the Government of Canada's recent call for proposals entitled Opening Doors: Economic Opportunities for Women.
