GUELPH, ON, Dec. 8, 2017 /CNW/ - Investing in public infrastructure supports efficient, affordable and sustainable transit services that help Canadians and their families get to work, school and essential services on time and back home safely at the end of a long day. The governments of Canada and Ontario are making investments that will help create well-paying jobs and grow the middle class now while building a strong foundation for a sustainable economic future.
Lloyd Longfield, Member of Parliament for Guelph, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Liz Sandals, President of the Treasury Board of Ontario and Member of Provincial Parliament for Guelph, and His Worship Cam Guthrie, Mayor of the City of Guelph, today announced funding for a new transit project through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund. The Government of Canada is providing more than $500,000 and the City of Guelph will provide the balance of funding.
The City of Guelph will use the funding to replace three transit operations vehicles and four hoists. These purchases will help serve on-route supervision of transit operations and provide more reliable equipment when repairing vehicles. This project will support the growth of Guelph's public transit system while also making travel more convenient and efficient.
This investment is part of an agreement between Canada and Ontario for the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.
