OTTAWA, Dec. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women and the Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State for Social Development, today announced Government of Canada support for a project to improve the coordination of services for women and children accessing shelters in Canada.
The Canadian Network of Women's Shelters and Transition Houses is receiving $200,000 in Government of Canada support for their two-year project to improve the coordination and implementation of quality shelter services for women and children. As part of the project, a guide will be developed and best practices will be shared among shelters to ensure that the needs of women and children are met effectively.
The announcement took place during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. This 16-day event began on November 25th with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on December 10th, with International Human Rights Day.
