NIPAWIN, SK, Aug. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Randy Hoback, Member of Parliament for Prince Albert, today joined Veterans, members of the Royal Canadian Legion, community leaders and members of the public for the Wounded Warriors Weekend.
"Today we show support for both our Veterans and our service men and women who are still proudly serving Canada at home and around the world," said Minister Blaney. "Our Government recognizes the sacrifices associated with military operations and we are committed to supporting Veterans as they leave the military and transition to civilian life."
"I am honoured to be here this weekend to meet with Veterans and hear about their experiences as they served our great country," said MP Hoback. "Our Government is pleased to participate in important events like this one and show our support to communities like Nipawin."
The event consists of a weekend of activities to recognize and thank Canadian Veterans who served in Afghanistan, and U.S. Veterans (of the Iraqi War) for their sacrifices and service as members of the military. Guests will take part in recreational activities such as sport fishing, as well as attend a banquet, a barbecue, and a few breakfasts in their honour.
