WATERLOO, ON, May 16, 2012 /CNW/ - Investments in arts and heritage spaces in the Waterloo Region are helping to boost the economy and create jobs and growth. Gary Schellenberger, Member of Parliament (Perth-Wellington), today announced support for Drayton Entertainment, on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
With this funding, Drayton Entertainment will purchase and install specialized equipment for the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse in St. Jacobs and the new Dunfield Theatre Cambridge, which is currently under construction. The acquisition of new rigging, lighting and sound equipment, stage curtains, stage flooring, a ticketing system, and an infrared hearing assistance system will ensure an improved experience for theatre audiences.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in cultural facilities like these," said Minister Moore. "By supporting these initiatives, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support our arts, culture, and heritage."
"I am pleased to see our Government's support for arts organizations in the community," said Mr. Schellenberger. "This project will ensure that the community maintains modern quality facilities such as the St. Jacobs Playhouse and the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge."
"This is an exciting day for our organization," said Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment. "The project is unique in that it will directly pay dividends for several communities in Ontario and also enhance our ability to develop artistic opportunities that will attract visitors to these areas."
The Harper Government has provided funding of $725,000 through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program seeks to improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and arts presentation or exhibition. It is also designed to increase access for Canadians to performing, visual, and media arts, and to museum collections and heritage displays.
