MCCREARY, MB, May 4, 2012 /CNW/ - An investment in arts and culture in the Parkland region will help boost the economy and create jobs and growth. Support for the Burrows Trail Arts Council was announced today by Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament (Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
Funding will support the presentation of the Burrows Trail Arts Council's 2012 and 2013 performing seasons. Each season offers the residents of McCreary, Alonsa and Glenella a variety of live performances in folk and popular music, and theatre. The Council also provides outreach activities, including post-concert discussions with the artists. Over 1,500 residents and visitors attend these activities annually.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in top-notch local arts organizations like the Burrows Trail Arts Council," said Minister Moore. "By supporting activities like this one, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy, support local arts, culture, and heritage."
"Thanks to this investment, the Burrows Trail Arts Council will continue to provide residents and visitors to the Parkland region with a high-quality performing arts series," said Mr. Sopuck. "This will boost tourism and have positive social and economic impacts for our communities, our province, and for all Canadians."
"We would like to thank the Government of Canada for its commitment to rural arts organizations," said Mrs. Ann Dulle, Administrator of the Burrows Trail Arts Council. "It is because of their support that our organization has been able to grow and offer quality programming to our communities."
The Burrows Trail Arts Council is located in McCreary, Manitoba, and acts as an arts hub serving the rural communities of McCreary, Alonsa and Glenella. The organization's primary focus is to promote culture and the arts by encouraging learning and community participation.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $9,700 ($4,850 per year for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
