ORILLIA, ON, Feb. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - The Orillia Spring Blues Festival will continue to entertain residents of Orillia and visitors to the city, thanks in part to an investment by the Government of Canada. This was announced today by Bruce Stanton, Member of Parliament (Simcoe North), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
From June 8 to 10, 2012, the 17th edition of the Orillia Spring Blues Festival will present performances by local R&B, folk and soul musicians. The Festival, which takes place along the city's scenic waterfront, will give local artists a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in and celebrate important events like the Orillia Spring Blues Festival," said Minister Moore. "By supporting these festivals, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support arts, culture, and heritage."
"Local festivals like the Orillia Spring Blues Festival have a strong cultural and economic impact on our community," said Mr. Stanton. "Thanks to the Government of Canada's investment, festival-goers will continue to enjoy the musical talents of our local artists."
"We are very pleased to receive this funding for the second year from the Government of Canada," said Joe Fecht, Founder of the Orillia Spring Blues Festival. "Every bit of financial assistance supports us as a non-profit organization and contributes to the cultural diversity of our local community."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $3,400 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
