KELOWNA, BC, Nov. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - An investment in arts and culture in Kelowna will help boost the regional economy. Wood Lake Publishing will continue to inspire readers everywhere, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada. This was announced today by the Honourable Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament (Kelowna-Lake Country), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
Wood Lake Publishing has been providing readers with unique, accessible perspectives on matters of soul and spirit through its digital and printed books for over three decades.
"This year marks the start of the five-year countdown to Canada's 150th birthday in 2017," said Minister Moore. "Our Government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, prosperous, and free country we are today."
"Investing in arts and culture is central to the economic and social health of Kelowna-Lake Country and communities across Canada," said Mr. Cannan. "With our support, Wood Lake Publishing will continue to introduce people from around the world to the delights of reading Canadian-authored books."
"Given the current realities and challenges facing Canadian publishers, Wood Lake Publishing is very pleased that the Government of Canada has chosen to continue to support Canadian publishers and publications through the Canada Book Fund program," said Michael Schwartzentruber, President of Wood Lake Publishing. "The support we receive is absolutely essential to the maintenance of our publishing program. Taking a broader perspective, I believe it is important both to present and preserve a place for Canadian culture and Canadian cultural values on the world stage. Wood Lake products, for example, are used throughout Canada and the U.S., as well as in the U.K., Europe, Australia, and even parts of Asia. In other words, the Canada Book Fund makes an invaluable contribution to the lives of thousands, both here at home in Canada and around the world."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $65,792 through the Support for Publishers stream of the Canada Book Fund (CBF). The principal objective of the CBF is to ensure access to a diverse range of Canadian-authored books in Canada and abroad. The Fund seeks to achieve this objective by fostering a strong Canadian book industry that publishes and markets Canadian-authored books.
