Harper Government Supports Economic Opportunities for Women in Alberta's Oil and Gas Sector Français
EDMONTON, Feb. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, P.C., M.P., Minister of Health, Minister Responsible for Northern Alberta and Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Spruce Grove, on behalf of the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, today announced Government of Canada support for a project to enhance women's participation in Alberta's oil and gas sector.
The Canadian Centre for Women in Science, Engineering, Trades, and Technology (WinSETT Centre) is receiving funding to help retain and advance female scientists and engineers currently working in the oil and gas sector across Alberta. In collaboration with industry partners, an Alberta industry action plan will be developed to create more inclusive and supportive employment environments. The organization plans to share findings and resources developed in this project through its national network across Canada.
This project was selected through the Government of Canada's recent call for proposals entitled Opening Doors: Economic Opportunities for Women.

- Since 2007, the Harper Government has delivered more than $53 million through the Women's Program at Status of Women Canada for projects that promote women's economic security and prosperity.
