MONTRÉAL, April 27, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced the Government of Canada's contribution to the 2012 Défi sportif through the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I am pleased to announce our support for the Défi sportif," said Minister of State Gosal. "We are proud to support Paralympic sports and our Paralympic athletes, as they are an enormous source of pride for all Canadians."
The Défi sportif is an international event that assembles athletes, ranging from the elite to newcomers, with all types of disabilities. Presented by Hydro-Québec, the Défi sportif is organized by AlterGo, a group of organizations concerned with providing access to leisure for persons with a disability.
The Government of Canada is the single largest contributor to sport in Canada and supports participation and excellence from the playground to the podium. Sport Canada contributed over $5.5M to the Canadian Paralympic Committee for the 2011-2012 fiscal year and is providing $75,000 for the 2012 Défi sportif.
