OTTAWA, Jan. 22, 2015 /CNW/ - Earlier today the Electrical Safety Authority directed all of Ontario's utilities to replace and discontinue use of a specific model of electrical meter – the Sensus 3.2 with remote disconnect. This meter is in very limited use in Ontario and represents less than one tenth of one percent of the 4.8 million meters in the province.
Hydro Ottawa does not have any of the meters in question installed, nor does it use any meters manufactured by Sensus.
Furthermore, Hydro Ottawa conducts inspections and testing of all smart meter types installed in accordance with Measurement Canada regulations and ISO 9001:2000 procedures for quality management. No observations have been made to cast doubt on the safety or reliability of the smart meters currently in use.
