IKEA Richmond to Open New Store on April 25, 2012
BURLINGTON, ON, April 3, 2012 /CNW/ - The grand opening of IKEA's newest Canadian store in Richmond means more blue and yellow pride under one roof. Set to open April 25th, IKEA Richmond will be hiring an additional 50 coworkers to support the new 334,000 sq ft store (31,030 m2). With one of the lowest turnover rates in the Canadian retail industry, the new IKEA coworkers will be welcomed into an environment that fosters a feeling of community and encourages professional growth.
"We are happy that we are in a position to be developing exciting new employment opportunities in our store and to be providing an improved working environment for our existing coworkers," says Maya Abdou, Richmond Store Manager. "With the new store, our coworkers will enjoy a roof top patio, a larger coworker restaurant as well as more meeting rooms and lockers."
Celebrating the grand opening of Canada's newest store, will be IKEA Richmond's very first IKEA Backpacker. The IKEA Backpacker initiative is one of the many professional development programs that earned IKEA Canada the recognition of being one of Canada's top employers for young people by Mediacorp in 2011. By participating in the IKEA Backpacker program, coworkers have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced mentor in different store locations around the world.
IKEA encourages professional development by offering its coworkers the training and tools they need to succeed. Each year, IKEA Canada publishes a Learning & Development program guide that includes over 45 training opportunities in the form of local in-store training, national training and specialized workshops to develop job competence, management and leadership abilities.
IKEA co-workers are also encouraged to take responsibility for their development and are offered an educational assistance reimbursement of 75% for academic courses related to their career path at IKEA.
