The home furnishing retailer is committed to taking care of co-workers and supporting the local community during the temporary closure
BURLINGTON, ON, March 18, 2020 /CNW/ - Effective immediately, IKEA Canada announces the temporary closure of all store locations nationwide as a precautionary measure due to the ongoing risk of COVID-19.
"Our top priority during these challenging times continues to be health and safety. Our communities are working hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to support these efforts, we will temporarily close all stores across the country to support social distancing efforts and based on recommendations from local health authorities," said Michael Ward, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA Canada.
Working in line with recommendations from local authorities, the retailer has already taken a number of preventative measures including closing its Restaurants, Bistros and Småland play areas and increasing the frequency of sanitization and cleaning in its locations. Based on the evolving situation, IKEA Canada has now decided to close all stores to customers until further notice. For convenience, IKEA will remain open online at IKEA.ca, offering home delivery services as well as store Click & Collect pick-up between 11 AM – 6 PM. The retailer will also extend all current commercial offers until April 30th, 2020.
Co-workers are at the heart of the IKEA business and the retailer is committed to supporting its 7,300 co-workers in the best possible way during closure. IKEA will continue to support co-workers through its comprehensive benefits package and paid leave policy.
IKEA is committed to supporting the communities in which it serves and will work with local partners to identify and provide the right support and relief to Canadians during this complex and fast-evolving situation.
"As a company who cares deeply about people and the planet, our thoughts are with those directly affected by the virus and those working tirelessly to treat them," said Michael Ward, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA Canada.
IKEA looks forward to welcoming customers back to its store locations soon and thanks customers for their understanding during these extraordinary circumstances.
