IKEA Canada recognized as One of Canada's Greenest Employers for a 4th Time Around
BURLINGTON, ON, April 20, 2012 /CNW/ - In the 60's Bob Dylan wrote a song titled 4th Time Around. The lyrics from the song; "Don't forget everybody must give something back for something they get" resonate with IKEA Canada, who has been recognized today as one of Canada's Greenest employers for the fourth consecutive year. This special designation recognizes employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations. This year, IKEA was recognized for its international partnerships with UNICEF, Save the Children and WWF, long-standing national partnerships with Tree Canada and Make-A-Wish Canada, in-store recycling programs, sustainable building practices, environmental store audits, mandatory environmental training programs and sustainable procurement guidelines.
"Receiving recognition as one of Canada's Greenest Employers is truly an honour as it reflects our passion for building a successful business on the foundation of responsible practices," says Kerri Molinaro, President of IKEA Canada. "I wish to congratulate all our coworkers for this award as they demonstrate a commitment to sustainability that is parallel to our organization's dedication."
Each month co-workers are challenged to raise their store's diversion rate and to recycle as many materials as possible. IKEA Canada is committed to increased waste diversion by sorting materials destined for reuse, recycle or energy recovery, by keeping them out of the landfill.
Throughout April, co-workers are participating in Earth Day activities, including the 2nd annual Recycle Build-Off Competition. This competition encourages co-workers to build a product using recycled materials or products from IKEA's iconic AS-IS or Builders' Corner. It also raises awareness that there are many alternatives besides the landfill for products at the end of their lifecycle; materials should flow in a never-ending loop.
