TRACADIE, NB, Aug. 13, 2018 /CNW/ - An official announcement was held today at Accueil Ste-Famille Inc. in Tracadie. Plans were shared to renovate an existing transition house for women and children and to begin construction on a new second-stage housing facility that will provide 6 new units to the area.

The announcement was made by Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie-Bathurst on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and by Serge Rouselle, MLA for Tracadie-Sheila on behalf of Minister Stephen Horsman, Minister of Families and Children

Highlights

• Through the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement signed by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Province of New Brunswick, the governments of Canada and New Brunswick are providing more than $1.3 million in joint funding to renovate a transition house for women and children in the Tracadie region and to build a new second-stage housing facility.  
• Accueil Ste-Famille Inc. is a non-profit organization that helps victims of family violence. It will receive $591,000 to renovate its existing transition house that houses 10 beds.
• The organization will also receive $240,000 for the construction of a new six-unit second stage housing facility along with $545,000 in rent supplements.
• Second-stage housing provides safe housing and community services that help women and their families become independent.
