MONTREAL, Sept. 23, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Research on multiple sclerosis is progressing in leaps and bounds, and Quebec is undeniably contributing to advances in this field; its leading-edge projects have international impact. Come and meet eminent health care specialists and learn the very latest news on the results of research into the disease at the Quebec Summit on Multiple Sclerosis, organized by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, which will be held at the Hôtel Mortagne, Boucherville, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 27, 2014. The MS Society's spokesperson, Debbie Lynch-White, also urges you to attend the deepelling activity that will be happening at the same time: "Watch this spectacular descent and gather the participants' first impressions!"

Meteoric advances, innovative projects
"In just 20 years, treatments to slow down the progression of the most frequent form of the disease (relapsing-remitting) have increased from zero to ten," pointed out Louis Adam, Executive Director of the Quebec Division of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Although there is still no treatment for the progressive form, the scientific community has succeeded in building a powerful international research network, making it possible to speed up discoveries in this field. Mr. Adam went on: "In an ambitious international initiative, a team of Montreal researchers has received a grant for a promising research project on progressive MS. We are lucky enough to have some of the best researchers in the world right here, making Canada one of the leaders in advanced MS research."

Research is at the core of our mission. Making it easier to understand and access remains one of our priorities. That is why we organized the second Quebec Summit on Multiple Sclerosis, which will be a unique opportunity for researchers and the 600 participants touched by MS to dialogue and build closer ties, benefiting both parties.

Deepelling: At the summit for the cause!
Deepelling is one of the most challenging activities around. It involves descending a vertical wall, such as a building, face down. On September 27, on the outside walls of the Hôtel Mortagne, MS Society employees, health care professionals and people with MS will experience this intense and rewarding activity, helping the MS Society to move a few steps closer to a future without MS at the same time. "I admire the daring and generosity of the participants who will take up this challenge for the 20,000 Quebecers who have multiple sclerosis, as my father did," said actor Debbie Lynch-White.
