OTTAWA, May 15, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) has released a new public service announcement in hopes of encouraging Canadians to ask more questions when seeking cosmetic laser treatments, specifically laser hair removal. The CDA's new video It doesn't hurt to ask, which can be found on YouTube and Facebook, shows a withdrawn young woman with visible burns to her face who slowly gains more confidence with each question she asks.
The need for more public education became particularly apparent after the W5's investigative report, Don't Get Burned, aired in January and CDA received a number of emails from Canadians asking for help after being injured. "People were asking us where they could go for treatment of burns, scars and depigmentation of their skin," says Dr Denise Wexler, CDA President.
The CDA has also added additional information to dermatology.ca covering the types of questions Canadians should be asking when seeking laser hair removal.
"The bottom line is that it doesn't hurt to ask but it could hurt not to" says Wexler.

The Canadian Dermatology Association, founded in 1925, represents Canadian dermatologists. The association strives to provide easy access to the largest, most reliable source of medical knowledge on dermatology. CDA exists to advance the science and art of medicine and surgery related to the care of the skin, hair and nails; provide continuing professional development for its members; support and advance patient care; provide public education on sun protection and other aspects of skin health; and promote a lifetime of healthier skin, hair and nails. By doing so, CDA informs and empowers both medical professionals and the Canadian public.
