OTTAWA, ON, June 2, 2020 The Government continues investing in people, the economy and COVID-19 relief to help ensure Canada's future success.
/CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, President of the Treasury Board of Canada tabled the Supplementary Estimates (A), 2020–21, in the House of Commons.
Supplementary Estimates are the means by which the Government seeks funds from Parliament during the fiscal year. These Estimates show, for information purposes, changes in planned statutory expenditures. Most of these are authorized by the COVID-19 Emergency Response Acts, which were approved by Parliament in March and April.
These Supplementary Estimates account for $6 billion in voted budgetary spending plans across 42 federal organizations. Parliamentarians will have the opportunity to vote on these allocations which seek to provide important services to all Canadians.
Spending plans include $1 billion in continued support for COVID-19 relief, including $405.2 million for the National Medical Research Strategy to fund tracking and testing of COVID-19, the development of vaccines and therapies, and the enhancement of clinical trial and biomanufacturing capacity in Canada.
