KINGSTON, ON, Oct. 30, 2018 /CNW/ - On October 23, 2018 members of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) arrested a suspected drug trafficker who was attempting to import prohibited handguns.
On October 18, 2018, border service officers at the International Mail Processing Centre in Toronto intercepted two 9 mm pistols being shipped via Canada Post, which lead to an investigation. While designed to be movie props, these pistols are prohibited in Canada as they can be converted to fire live ammunition.
The joint CBSA-RCMP investigation discovered that the intended recipient was prohibited from owning firearms and was on probation. In addition to the firearms, suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, diverted prescription opioids, and drug trafficking paraphernalia was found during the search of his residence. As a result, another resident was also charged with drug offences.
Kevin Lyons-Fougere (26 years old) of Kingston, Ontario, is charged with:
- Smuggling prohibited goods into Canada – contrary to the Customs Act (2 Counts);
- Possession of controlled imported goods – contrary to the Customs Act (2 Counts);
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized – contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) (2 Counts);
- Importing a firearm knowing it is unauthorized – contrary to the CCC (2 Counts);
- Possession of a firearm contrary to Order - contrary to the CCC;
- Possession for the purpose of Trafficking – contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
Kimberley HEARN (25 years old) of Kingston, Ontario, is charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of Trafficking – contrary to the CDSA;
Lyons-Fougere appeared in Provincial Court on October 29th, 2018 at 279 Wellington St, in Kingston, Ontario. Hearn will appear in court on November 14th, 2018.
