La Presse enters partnership with the Broadcast Consortium for the French-language 2015 Leaders' Debate Français
OTTAWA, July 15, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada's largest broadcasters – CBC News, CTV News, Global News, Radio-Canada, and Télé-Québec are pleased to announce that La Presse will partner with the Broadcast Consortium to produce and distribute the French-language 2015 Leaders' Debate.
This first-ever federal election partnership with La Presse will allow the leaders' debates to reach an even larger number of Canadians. As a Consortium partner, La Presse will help determine the format, provide a representative to co-moderate, and distribute the French-language debate digitally to its readership.
"We are delighted to announce this partnership with La Presse, which will enrich the democratic experience for French-speaking audiences across the country during the 2015 election campaign" said Michel Cormier, Executive Director, News and Current Affairs of Radio-Canada and member of the Consortium.
"With La Presse+, La Presse is the first tablet-based news organization to join the leaders' debate broadcast consortium," said La Presse's Éric Trottier, Vice-President of News and Editor in Chief. "It's a major first for us, but it also reflects a larger shift in the media industry. Beyond the innovation, we're very proud to partner with the major broadcasters and contribute to Canadian democratic life by providing all of the federal parties with an exceptional platform to present their ideas to voters in the run-up to the fall election."
The 2015 Leaders' Debates will have unprecedented digital reach and make them the most modern and accessible ever, reaching voters of all ages across the country. The debates will be offered across all platforms with closed captioning and simultaneous translation, and will be made available for other media outlets to distribute.
