BEACONSFIELD, QC, July 20, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Coroner's Office has been mandated to conduct an inquest into the death by drowning of an 18-year old man in the waters of Lake Saint-Louis during a kayaking trip on Thursday afternoon.
The young man had booked a kayak at the rental center, operated by a subcontractor on the beach of Centennial Park, only minutes prior to the event.
"Each mortal accident is a tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and loved ones", declares the mayor of Beaconsfield, Georges Bourelle.
Rescue teams responded quickly. The victim's body was retrieved in the evening. The police investigation by the Service de police de Montréal of the circumstances surrounding the accident has been transferred to the Coroner's Office. The City of Beaconsfield will await the formal conclusion of the inquest before providing further comments if necessary.
"I wish to thank all rescue workers who were on site and acted with professionalism to support the family and friends and to conclude the search rapidly", says Mayor Bourelle.
