LEWISPORTE, NL, July 30, 2018 /CNW/ - The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are committed to investing in local infrastructure that ensures Canadians and their families have access to modern, reliable water and wastewater services that meet their needs.
Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays–Central–Notre Dame, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; Derek Bennett, Member of the House of Assembly for Lewisporte–Twillingate, on behalf of the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment; and Her Worship Betty Clarke, Mayor of Lewisporte, today announced more than $2.1 million in joint funding to improve potable water service in the town of Lewisporte.
The Government of Canada is contributing over $733,000 to this project through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component—National Regional Projects. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will contribute over $1 million, with the Town of Lewisporte covering the remainder of project costs.
Project work includes adding a secondary water storage tank and twinned water main to the current water distribution system. This work will expand reliable and efficient water distribution to unserviced residents and neighbourhoods, and will improve overall water services in the town.
