MONTREAL, June 3, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - On Saturday and Sunday, June 2nd and 3rd, the Liberal Party of Canada (Québec) held its Biennial Convention at Collège André-Grasset in Montreal. Over 600 members gathered together to choose their new Executive and to attend training seminars on the different aspects of political organization. « We wanted this Convention to be the occasion for our members, from all 75 ridings to get all the tools they will need to rebuild this Party of ours and to get us on the road back to power in 2015 » said the Executive Manager Denis Joannette.
Election of the New Executive Council
As part of the Convention, members voted to choose a new team to form the Executive Council for the next two years. The 35 officers of the new Executive Council will assume the chosen orientations of the Party and its members. Mrs. Alexandra Mendès was elected President of the new Executive Council. "I can assure you that we all are, first and foremost, grassroots members and we can't wait to get to work with all our members from the local associations everywhere in Québec. We want to make sure that Québec takes its rightful role when dealing with the many regional and national issues facing our great Party".
This Biennial Convention was the first important meeting of the Federal Liberal members from Québec since the general election of May 2nd, 2011. "Most of the positions in the Executive Council were closely contested. The heated debates between the many candidates is a proof that our liberal values are very much alive in Québec" concluded Denis Joannette.
