ArcelorMittal Dofasco Named Official Supplier of Games
HAMILTON, ON, Nov. 14, 2014 /CNW/ - ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Canada's largest flat-rolled steel producer and Hamilton's largest private-sector employer, will provide the steel needed to form one of the most iconic symbols of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games: the cauldron.
The partnership was announced today at the Hamilton-based company's headquarters.
Hundreds of millions of households across the Americas are expected to watch as the cauldron is lit for the first time on July 10, to officially open the Pan Am Games. It will be lit a second time on August 7 to welcome the best athletes in the region to the Parapan Am Games. The lit cauldron also often opens and closes daily broadcasts of the Games.
It will be made from 10 types of steel including hot roll, Galvalume®, cold-roll enameling and tubular, and will weigh approximately 14 tonnes. The steel is proudly manufactured by the more than 5,000 employees of ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Hamilton. A second cauldron will also be produced as a legacy for the City of Hamilton.

ArcelorMittal has supplied steel to many global sporting events. As a sponsor of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the company provided the steel for the Anish Kapoor-designed The Orbit, as well as more than half the steel for the venues across Brazil for the FIFA 2014 World Cup as well as steel for the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Further details on the cauldron's design, as well as the role of the second cauldron, will be released shortly before the start of the Games next summer.
