Media Advisory - Governor General to Meet with the Representatives of the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize at Rideau Hall Français
OTTAWA, May 16, 2016 /CNW/ - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will meet with the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet at Rideau Hall on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at 8:45 a.m.
"It is a great honour for me to welcome the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, recipient of the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize. I look forward to congratulating its representatives in person for their hard work that speaks to the dedication of Tunisians to building a democratic and pluralistic society based on the rule of law," the Governor General stated.
About the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet
The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet was formed in September 2013 in the midst of a major political and social crisis, marked by the assassination of two lay politicians, the suspension of Tunisia's Constituent Assembly, mass protests and calls for the government to resign and the dissolution of parliament. The National Dialogue Quartet was awarded the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize for the crucial role it played during the 2013 crisis that threatened Tunisia's transition to democracy, begun in 2011. The Quartet is a coalition of four organizations: the Tunisian General Labour Union, the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, the Tunisian Human Rights League and the Tunisian Order of Lawyers.
There will be a photo opportunity at the beginning of the meeting. Media are asked to arrive at the Princess Anne Entrance no later than 8:30 a.m.
