MONTRÉAL, June 6, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The stunt: Oxfam activists, wearing mask and performing as the leaders of the G7 nations, will take on the double burden that women around the world face: juggling cleaning, cooking, and caring for children, while at the same time taking on paid jobs outside the home.
Why: Women and girls everywhere are expected to do a hugely disproportionate amount of unpaid care and domestic work – between two and 10 times what men do, depending on where you live in the world. This holds women back from attending school, training for jobs, or participating in public life. Without these opportunities, the poorest women are kept in poverty.
The G7 has made women's economic empowerment part of this year's agenda. To build an economy that works for women, Oxfam is urging G7 leaders to commit to free and universal social services, like childcare and healthcare, which shift the burden of unpaid care work off women.
When: Thursday, June 7 at 9:00 AM
Where: In front of Quebec Parliament Building (100 meters away from the Media Center)
Who: Oxfam spokespeople will be available for interviews following the stunt.
