QUÉBEC CITY, Oct. 16, 2012 /CNW/ - Representatives of Quebec student groups who took part in a general strike that led to the defeat of a proposed tuition fee increase will address delegates to the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union convention this week.
The groups will be receiving the union's special CEP Neil Reimer Award for social justice
"The struggle for accessible post-secondary education is very close to CEP's heart and principles," said Gaétan Ménard, CEP secretary-treasurer. "Recognizing and honouring the mobilizing force of students in Québec is important to build a broader movement for equality and justice, and it is with great pleasure that we will honour their work at our convention".
Representatives of the Fédération étudiante universitaire du Québec (FEUQ), the Fédération étudiante collégiale du Québec (FECQ), and the Coalition large de l'Association pour une solidarité syndicale et étudiante (CLASSE) will be present to receive the award and address delegates.

Neil Reimer was an accomplished and progressive labour leader who helped form one of CEP's predecessor union`s, the Energy and Chemical Workers Union. The Neil Reimer Award is given bi-annually to individuals or organizations in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the public good.
The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada is the largest union in several key sectors of Canada's economy, including forestry, energy, telecommunications and media. The union's 120,000 members work at a wide variety of jobs in hundreds of different workplaces across the country.
