Media advisory: Assembly of First Nations National Chief to Welcome the Indigenous Land Title Express: Tsilhqot'in Journey for Justice

OTTAWA, Nov. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Today, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo will join First Nations leaders and representatives to welcome the Indigenous Land Title Express: Tsilhqot'in Journey for Justice, a group of Elders, citizens and supporters of the Tsilhqot'in Nation who travelled across the country from their home territory in B.C. to Ottawa for the Supreme Court of Canada hearing on November 7 of the William case.  The William case, which clarifies recognition and affirmation of inherent Indigenous title to their lands and territories, is one of the most important Aboriginal rights cases in decades.

The Indigenous Land Title Express caravan has been greeted during its journey by many First Nations who have offered feasts and ceremony in support of this important case. The Supreme Court hearing is the culmination of more than two decades of effort by the Tsilhqot'in Nation to secure affirmation of title. The William case is highly significant and will have far-ranging implications for First Nations and Canada.
