Media advisory - Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec to participate in the December 6 commemoration Français
MONTREAL, Dec. 3, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Representatives of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) will participate in various commemoration events of the 30th anniversary of the Polytechnique tragedy, which took the lives of 14 women, including 12 who were preparing to become engineers.
To pay homage to the victims and survivors, OIQ President Kathy Baig, Eng., FEC, MBA, will participate on December 6 in the following events:
- book launch for Ce jour-là – Parce qu'elles étaient des femmes, at 9 a.m. at Polytechnique;
- beams of light memorial event, at 5 p.m. on the Mount Royal belvedere.
Anne Baril, Eng., elected Board member and Vice President of the OIQ, will participate in the Order of the White Rose scholarship ceremony at 11 a.m. on December 5 at Polytechnique.
To mark this anniversary, the OIQ will encourage its employees to wear a white ribbon on December 6, which stands for the elimination of violence towards women and girls. The 65,000 current and future members of the profession will be encouraged to do the same.
Interviews
In conjunction with these activities, the OIQ's President–who studied engineering at Polytechnique Montreal–will be available for interviews with media interested in taking the opportunity provided by the commemoration to discuss:
- the growth in the number of women in the profession over the last three decades, from only 4% of engineers in 1989 to 15% in 2019;
- the various actions of the OIQ and its members in support of the "30 by 30" initiative, whose goal is for women to account for 30% of new engineers by 2030.
