TUSKET, NS, Oct. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament (West Nova), today announced new funding for the Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas (CAPEB) that will help promote Acadian culture in the community. He made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
"The Government of Canada is proud to invest in this project that is tailored especially for youth," said Mr. Kerr. "By supporting initiatives and organizations like the Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas, we are delivering on our commitment to support official-language communities."
The funding will help CAPEB realize its project Les jeunes vivent leur culture, which aims to help youth in the Acadian community of the Argyle region better appreciate Acadian culture. The project will involve workshops on French music, workshops on the arts using new technology, the planting of a traditional Acadian garden, and interactive craft activities.
"Our Government is proud to partner with organizations that enhance the vitality of the Acadian and Francophone communities in Nova Scotia," said Minister Glover. "English and French are integral to our history, our identity, and our future. It is important to continue to support all of the things that have made Canada the united, prosperous, and free country we know today."
"The Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas is very grateful to Canadian Heritage for its contribution, which will help us to continue our work with Acadian youth in various arts disciplines," said Norbert LeBlanc, CAPEB's President. "This support speaks to the importance of youth and varied arts-based programming at the Centre communautaire de Par-en-Bas."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $20,000 to the Conseil acadien de Par-en-Bas through the Development of Official-Language Communities program. This program aims to foster the development of Canada's minority Anglophone and Francophone communities and enable them to participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.
