LAVAL, QC, Nov. 6, 2018 /CNW/ - On November 3, 2018, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), Region of Quebec, held the annual Memorial Ceremony for Fallen Employee in order to remember the nine employees from the region who have died during the line of duty.
Since 2007, this annual event is held on the first Saturday of November in Laval, near the CSC Correctional Learning and Development Centre, the Federal Training Centre and the Old St. Vincent de Paul Penitentiary. This year, we remember more particularly two CSC employees who passed 40 years ago: Michel Roy, Warden of Archambault Institution, who was murdered on February 7, 1978 in front of his home and Guy Fournier, Correctional Officer, who passed on July 11, 1978 during a hostage taking.
Since 1835, thousands of employees have dedicated their careers to public safety by working for federal corrections. Over the past 180 years, 35 people (3 women and 32 men) have sacrificed their lives to protect our communities, including 9 in the Quebec Region.
