OTTAWA, May 4, 2015 /CNW/ - My wife, Sharon, and I firmly believe that it is important for us to highlight Mental Health Week, coordinated by the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Unfortunately, too many Canadians suffer in silence rather than seek out the help they need, often because of persistent misconceptions surrounding various forms of mental illness.
Over the last few years, Sharon had the opportunity to observe several innovative practices in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. We are in the midst of a transformative era in human history, one in which communication tools are facilitating the transfer of knowledge. We believe it is vital to share these good practices and to learn more on how to reduce the stigmatization of mental illness.
We encourage you to make the most of this week by taking part in some of the many events being organized, and to reflect, learn and talk about all aspects of mental health.
Enjoy the week!
David Johnston
Mental Health Week takes place from May 4 to 10, 2015.
